Witham Town went top of the Essex Senior League Premier Division following a 9-1 destruction of Basildon United at Spa Road.

Confidence was high in the Witham Town team following last week’s equally impressive seven-goal victory over Clapton, and it was clear early on that they would extend their unbeaten run that began in August.

Manager Garry Kimble will have been delighted to have more than half of his team on the score sheet as two goals by Rob Whitnell, added to the goals by Billy Hunt, Joe Ilett, Scott Pethers, John Bradley, Sam Taylor, Daniel Lopes and Lewis Godbold.

Following the defeat, and Michael Dekeyzer’s 24th-minute solitary goal, Basildon United Manager Paul Larke quit as manager.

Witham Town face Stansted on Saturday, before going away to Enfield for a top of the table clash on November 5th.
