Lota Training, an Apprenticeship Training Provider operating across Essex has proved that going that extra mile for its learners has really paid off.

Lota Trainings company ethos is to inspire young people to embark on a “journey in learning”. Lota’s relationship with the Miles family from Chelmsford, Essex has shown that though journey may be tough, each mile travelled provides its own rewards.

In a climate where youth unemployment is high, media are focusing on the behaviour of young people and the causes of such behaviour, Lota has been working in partnership with a remarkable one parent family with three young adults all looking to better themselves.

We are often quick to condemn groups of youths or single parents and to stereotype them within our society. Lota Training has however been immensely proud to have worked alongside one very determined Mum who had high hopes for her 3 children and supported them wholeheartedly to aim high and work hard to achieve their true potential.

Mandy Miles, Mother to Luke, Lauren and Lloyd Miles has shown that parental support, coupled with the right advice and training can provide great results. Mandy has worked closely with Linda Sutton, Lota’s Student Support Coordinator, to ensure that her children received the right support and guidance along the way.

Luke Miles, 20, is about to embark on an Apprenticeship with Lota Training in IT Practitioner / Professional. This qualification will open many doors for Luke, who prefers to be hands-on in his learning style and his profession. Luke will gain a huge variety of skills to benefit his future and be able to enter into a growing technical world.

Lauren Miles, 17, is about to complete her Apprenticeship with Lota Training in Childcare Learning and Development. When Lauren first joined Lota she was shy and lacked confidence. She did however always demonstrate a natural passion for working with children. Her Assessor, Paula Tull commented: “observing Lauren in her placement was great. She showed good interaction with the children and it was apparent that the staff in the setting liked and respected her.”

“In a climate where youth unemployment is high, media are focusing on the behaviour of young people and the causes of such behaviour...”
Lauren is due to start work with a new company very soon, specialising in working with children with Down Syndrome. Lauren has truly matured and developed during the course of her Apprenticeship and will be a great asset to any team.

Lloyd Miles, 16, has recently completed his Induction Programme with Lota Training. The programme is designed to ensure that learners embark on the right Apprenticeship for them and that all their questions are answered before they begin. Lloyd is now utilising Lota’s free apprentice recruitment service, working with our recruitment team to find the right employment and training opportunity.

Mandy Miles said: “Lota have been absolutely fantastic for all three of my children. I can’t stress enough how amazing Linda Sutton, in Lota’s Student Support Department, has been. She has supported not only the children, but given me so much help and support too. She’s always on the end of the phone and always has time for us. She has made the world of difference to my children’s futures and I can’t thank her enough”.

Jan Smith, Managing Director at Lota Training said: “This is what Lota is all about. We pride ourselves on getting the whole Lota team behind every young person and work closely to support them and their families. Changing people’s lives is what this company is all about. Sometimes even the most determined, need a little extra help to succeed.”
